Steven Thorsen, 65, FDNY EMS, died in the line of duty of World Trade Center Illness. Proud to be an EMT and of his uniform, Steven served the FDNY EMS for 27 years, receiving honors and awards for bravery, sacrifice, and selflessness. Described as “debonair and chivalrous” with a magnetic personality, and remarkable sense of humor, his words and expressions were larger than life. Known to be very social, Steven helped organize battalion events, even after retirement from FDNY Station 23. A gifted artist renowned for his ability, he was so proud to be commissioned by FDNY to paint works for Engine 168 and Battalion 123. His art pieces, on display in numerous locations, will serve as a lasting legacy. As a master-faux artist, Steven refined and perfected his process to marbleize wood. Growing up, Steven loved days with his grandparents, who owned an inn. He loved fishing, horseback riding, the beach, and taught himself to speak Italian. A beloved husband, Steven treasured his wife, Toni Ann, his cat, Moe, and his art. He was a stepfather to Danielle, Alanna, Anthony, and Tory, and grandfather of two.
