Michael Stephenson 58, Vinton County EMS, died in the line-of-duty of Covid-19. Throughout his more than 30-year career in EMS, with the last 11 years dedicated to Vinton County, Mike served multiple agencies and departments as a fire fighter and paramedic. Known as a dedicated, hard worker, and great paramedic, he was committed to public service and loved his career. Remembered for his kind and patient manner, he never let a teachable moment pass. Described as a great friend, he always encouraged others to go after what they wanted in life, wanted the best for them, and poured his heart and soul into any project he spearheaded. As head Scout Master for 17 years to Troop 236, he cared deeply for his scouts and volunteered countless hours. High adventure trips were special to him as they allowed his scouts to gain life experiences. His love of genealogy and history is evidenced in the stories and photos he posted and in the care he took in gathering accurate information to honor families. His work is permanently displayed in the Dunkle Hall museum. Mike was a son, brother, foster father to a son, and good friend. He will be remembered for his dedication, love, and friendship.
