William Stalls, 69, Oak City Fire-EMS Department, died in the line of duty of COVID-19. Dedicating 43 years to serving his community through EMS and the fire department, and more than 20 years through the town government, William was the epitome of a public servant. A “jack of all trades,” he served as a firefighter and EMT and in various town positions and roles, including as Mayor and as a commissioner. He was often described as a dedicated and giving man, with a love for Oak City, and its citizens, for whom he gave his all. The fire department, to which he dedicated so much of himself, became his family. His impression and impact on Oak City will endure, and his service remembered.
